We met as newbie writers at Sleuthfest and four years later we return to the scene of the crime, so to speak. Only this time, we were up on stage interviewing the faculty authors, Tracy Clark and Tori Eldridge and Cathi led a class called, Yoga for Writers.

At Sleuthfest 2019 we started our mission to learn about this business together, and share the information with you readers and listeners! It’s been a fun ride and we are still going strong with our Season 5 of Game of Books coming out next month!

Fiona Barton’s  latest novel, Local Gone Missing, is a dark & twisty thriller set in a fictional small town in coastal England. We loved talking about how she designed Ebbing and why she loves placing a mystery there. And how she tells the story from different narrators and uses different points of views. We can’t give much away but we know you will love diving into this story. Or should we say plunging in, since we found out that is the British way of saying pantser. As in, Christie is a plunger and Cathi is a plotter. Christie is not sure how she feels about that. 

We also talked about her very successful years of journalism where she wrote every day but short, concise stories. After she left traditional journalism work, she lived abroad in Sri Lanka, secretly training journalists. During this time, she continued her writing habit and started writing novels. And she had to allow herself to invent after years of fact-based journalism.

Mark Greaney’s twentieth novel ARMORED, came out this month, and it coincides with the blockbuster movie release of THE GRAY MAN, based on his debut novel of the same name! Talk about things coming full circle! 

This super successful month is happening just thirteen years after he released The Gray Man on mass-market paperback. We loved talking about his writing journey. Like many successful authors, it was full of practice and hard work learning his craft.  Not to mention, the high risk military training he went through as research. As a long time fan of Jess Lourey and her writing, Christie had no trouble picking this month’s GOBRec – Bloodline. Inspired by real events, Lourey’s imagination turned a missing child case into a town filled with some dark and down-right creepy secrets. We follow pregnant journalist, Joan Harken, as she leaves the city for a small Minnesota town to start a new life with the man she loves. Weird things start happening, or maybe she’s imagining it all. The story draws you in so deep you won’t be able to stop reading until you find out the truth!
