In this week’s Sleuthfest 22 Recap episode, we give this year’s highlights of the mystery writer conference where we first met in 2019. Have a listen …

We met as newbie writers at Sleuthfest and four years later we return to the scene of the crime, so to speak. Only this time, we were up on stage interviewing the faculty authors, Tracy Clark and Tori Eldridge and Cathi led a class called, Yoga for Writers.

At Sleuthfest 2019 we started our mission to learn about this business together, and share the information with you readers and listeners! It’s been a fun ride and we are still going strong with our Season 5 of Game of Books coming out next month!

In this episode we talk from our hotel room and give a recap of just some of the events we enjoyed (like Noir in the Bar) and authors who inspired us (like Jeffery Deaver!).

And for those aspiring writers out there, we hope to see you in sunny south Florida next year for Sleuthfest 2023!

On this week’s Corks & Conversation with Fiona Barton episode we had a splendid chat with this New York Times Bestselling author all the way from her home on the southern coast of England. Have a listen …

Fiona Barton’s  latest novel, Local Gone Missing, is a dark & twisty thriller set in a fictional small town in coastal England. We loved talking about how she designed Ebbing and why she loves placing a mystery there. And how she tells the story from different narrators and uses different points of views. We can’t give much away but we know you will love diving into this story. Or should we say plunging in, since we found out that is the British way of saying pantser. As in, Christie is a plunger and Cathi is a plotter. Christie is not sure how she feels about that.

We also talked about her very successful years of journalism where she wrote every day but short, concise stories. After she left traditional journalism work, she lived abroad in Sri Lanka, secretly training journalists. During this time, she continued her writing habit and started writing novels. And she had to allow herself to invent after years of fact-based journalism.

We suggest you get a copy of Local Gone Missing here. (indie bookshop.org or Amazon.com) You can enjoy this book with a glass of Cotes de Provence Rosé, like we did.

Or like Cathi, with a delicious wine from Naked Wines! Just be sure to use one of our links when you order (like the coupon at the top of our website) so that we can get a little credit for the referral!

On this week’s Corks & Conversation with Mark Greaney episode we had a great talk about writing The Gray Man series, Jack Ryan novels with Tom Clancy, and the release of his  twentieth novel! Have a listen …

Mark Greaney’s twentieth novel ARMORED, came out this month, and it coincides with the blockbuster movie release of THE GRAY MAN, based on his debut novel of the same name! Talk about things coming full circle!

This super successful month is happening just thirteen years after he released The Gray Man on mass-market paperback. We loved talking about his writing journey. Like many successful authors, it was full of practice and hard work learning his craft.  Not to mention, the high risk military training he went through as research. He knows the feeling of bullets flying and it shows in his action packed novels.

Armored, his latest novel, tells the story of Josh Duffy, an elite bodyguard who survives an attack in Lebanon, but loses the lower part of his left leg. Relegated to a life as a mall cop, he gets a second chance at his former military life when he takes a high risk mission in the heart of cartel territory in Mexico. A heart-pounding page turner, Armored follows Josh finding his way with the bad-ass support of his former military wife, Nichole!

We suggest you get a copy of ARMORED here. (indie bookshop.org or Amazon.com) He wrote this after first writing a script for a audio play for Audible. Really something!!

And while you are at it, you should also get a copy of The Gray Man, that has been rereleased in conjunction with the movie, a Netflix original out today! Get The Gray Man here. (indie bookshop.org or Amazon.com)

In this week’s GOBrecs Book Club – The Match & Bloodline episode, we are recommending two best-selling crime fiction books! Have a listen …

We chose two hot crime fiction books for July! Written by two of our favorite and coolest authors!

Cathi chose the match by HARLAN COBEN

Harlan Coben’s thrillers never disappoint, and The Match is no different! The intersection of Wilde, one of his returning characters, genetic testing, and vengeance make for an outstanding and wild ride. Coben is known for his fast plotting that keeps you turning the pages, characters you really care about, and action on every page. You’ll never see what’s coming in this one!

Order The Match here for you and your friends (indie bookshop.org or Amazon.com). And enjoy it with a Pinot Noir and hoagies, like Cathi suggested!

If you prefer the wine delivered, then take our advice and join the Naked Wines club! You won’t be disappointed, but if you are then you can get your money back! Christie chose BLOODLINE by JESS LOUREY

As a long time fan of Jess Lourey and her writing, Christie had no trouble picking this month’s GOBRec – Bloodline. Winner of the best paperback original novel at Thrillerfest 2022, this book didn’t disappoint! Inspired by real events, Lourey’s imagination turned a missing child case into a town filled with some dark and down-right creepy secrets. We follow pregnant journalist, Joan Harken, as she leaves the city for a small Minnesota town to start a new life with the man she loves. Weird things start happening, or maybe she’s imagining it all. The story draws you in so deep you won’t be able to stop reading until you find out the truth!

Order BLOODLINE here (indie bookshop.org or Amazon.com). And take Christie’s suggestion and pair it with a Rosé (harkening back to the “white zin” of the 70s) and a comforting casserole made with soup and crushed chips on top. Did we mention the book takes place in the late 60s?
