This week’s GOB Club: THE FIRST TO LIE with Hank Phillippi Ryan was so fun and a great way to kick off this new series!
We were happy to have three of our listeners – Beth, Teresa, and Judi – join us as guests on the episode!

Author Hank Phillippi Ryan gave us four words to describe her latest book, The First to Lie:
“Betrayal, Motherhood, Obsession, and Revenge”
Our first guest, Beth, had a question about the idea for the novel. Hank’s inspiration came from events that happened 10 years earlier when she did an undercover investigation to see if a doctor would lie about their medical legal history. Fascinating!
Answering a question from our second guest, Teresa, about developing her characters:
“In that decision making process, their characters are revealed, their personalities are revealed, we decide if we like them based on what they do.”
In response to our third guest, Judi, Hank talked about the relationship between movies and novels:
“I write it to be as cinematic as I possibly can. But the cinema is in your brain, the cinema is not on the screen.”
