This week’s episode,  Corks and Conversation with Taylor Stevens,  was one of our most inspiring yet! Taylor had to overcome so much after being raised in an apocalyptic cult where her education stopped at the age of twelve. Listen to hear her story and advice about reaching goals.

Here are some highlights of what Taylor shared with us over a glass of Dark Horse Big Red Blend...

On research: “Research for me, has always been a case of finding a way to write about a subject so that the experts who really really know the subject aren’t going to laugh their butts off over it”

On motivation: “… I don’t want to go to my grave with regrets. I have the time right now to do this- I’m going to write a book.”

On finding an agent: “My goal was to get a hundred rejections, so even if I failed, I succeeded”

If after listening you want more of Taylor Stevens, you can find lots of information and writing advice on her website,  and on her podcast, The Taylor Stevens Show.

Also, go out and get one of her books, including her new release, Liars’ Legacy, which we featured on last week’s episode of Game of Books!

This week’s podcast will have you laughing out loud! Cathi started things off by asking about the Lizard Blizzard she heard was happening in Fort Lauderdale. We had to pull it together to even open our bottle of wine, Schmitt Söhne Riesling. It was crisp and fruity and sweet . A bit too sweet for our taste as an every day wine, but good for sipping on occasion. And it goes well with the book club food ideas, an appetizer spread.  Ham and cheese pinwheels and shrimp kabobs are some good ideas found on wellplated.com

All that pairs well with our book, Liars’ Legacy, a high-paced thriller. This Taylor Stevens‘ book moves all over Europe and North America with international assassins battling with wits and weapons. At the center are Jack and Jill, who are twins that are trained in espionage and weapons. Talk about action packed!

Next week we talk with the author herself for our Corks and Conversation with Taylor Stevens! We can’t wait to find out more about this self-taught author who was raised in an Apocalyptic Cult. She also has a writing podcast called the Taylor Stevens Show. Our talk is sure to be fascinating and inspiring!

Cathi ended with some great quotes to inspire us for the week:

“The Magic that you’re looking for is in the work that you’re avoiding” – courtesy of Mantra Magazine’s IG page.

“Whatever you are not changing…you are choosing.” from Hoda Kotb’s IG page.

On our latest episode, we talked with J.T. Ellison, author of the recently published Good Girls Lie, in addition to over 20 other thrillers! You have to listen in to see how she balances writing two books a year, editing, and promoting all at the same time! We’ll give you a hint – it has something to do with her favorite quote from Master Yoda.

On Episode 16, we discussed the just-released Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison. For a great book club gathering, and this IS a great book club pick, we paired it with Replica’s Cabernet Sauvignon – which turned out to be a perfect choice (you’ll have to listen to see why!). Christie also picked some perfect treats to serve alongside!

In our Writer’s Perspective, we talked about J.T.’s Two Minute rule. It’s a good one!

In first episode of the New Year, We talk resolutions, while enjoying a glass of Prophecy Sauvignon Blanc. We looked to a couple of our favorite authors for their thoughts. Check out Lisa Unger‘s and J.T. Ellison‘s approaches and then download the episode for our thoughts!

Happy New Year!

On Episode 11, Christie and I discussed one of my favorite writers, Daniel Silva, and his newest release The New Girl. We recorded when we were together last October in Atlanta. We love it when we get to record in the same room since it doesn’t happen often! We shared a bottle of Les Volets Pinot Noir, which paired perfectly with the book and the company.

We went to Thrillerfest in New York City last July and had a blast! We worked on our own writing and explored paths to getting published and along the way we met so many other writers and authors! Writing is such a solitary pursuit that it is wonderful to find a network of support … Thriller writers are the best!

We were also fortunate to be able to record some of our chats with published authors for our Corks and Conversation episodes. Listen here to Part 3 of 3 episodes where we talk to Gary Grossman, Reagan Keeter, and William Miller.

The wines we shared were Nine Lives Sauvignon Blanc and Love Noir Pinot Noir. We chose them because of their name and price and were pleasantly surprised. Yummy!
