This week’s, Corks and Conversation with Joseph Reid was a great way to kick off our Season Three …
Joseph Reid gave us so much insight into what it’s like to write novels that draw on our personal experiences, how to build complex characters, and how to write on deadlines while working full time. His new book, Departure, is the third in his Seth Walker series that follows the harrowing adventures of a federal air marshal.
We enjoyed a Starborough Sauvignon Blanc, the drink of choice for a difficult airline passenger on the first page of the book. After that there was no time for wine drinking in this book. We are talking a high-paced thrill ride!
We also realized that we had some things in common with Joe … he started out as a marine biologist (like Christie) and then moved on to the law (like Cathi) and is now a writer (aren’t we all?). We are certainly inspired by Joe to reach the next step as published author!
Here’s some of what Joseph Reid had to say:
On waking early to write …
“A lot of people get up early to exercise or meditate or something; it is very much my therapy- It’s what I do to relax and what I do for fun and what I do for myself.”
On getting his book on Late Night with Seth Myers …
“Honestly, it was just complete sheer blind luck”
